Meet Stephany
Hi, I’m Stephany Camargo. I am the founder of LaSODA Auslan Support, a business that provides support to the Deaf/deaf and their families. I am certified and qualified in Diploma of Auslan, and have been working with the Deaf/deaf since I was 16 years old.
I grew up with my brother Paul who was deaf from the age of 7 months. I supported him on and off through his life moments until he passed away 2014. This experience has given me a unique insight into what it means to be Deaf/deaf, as well as the challenges that the Deaf/deaf and their families face on a daily basis. My business name came from me being a sibling of a deaf adult (SODA) – LaSODA Auslan Support.
I am a communication and support person. I have been supporting people in Auslan and Spanish throughout my whole life. I understand the importance of clear, effective communication, and feel privileged to be able to use my skills to help others.
I am fluent in English, Spanish and Auslan, making me ideally placed to support those who need it. I also support my parents who do not speak much English; their language barrier is no obstacle for me.
Life experience is something that cannot be taught; it can only be learned through living. I am grateful for everything that life has thrown at me, as it has made me the person I am today.
